VUCA and the Centurion Principle of MAGNUS Officers

December 14 @ 2pm Eastern

Law enforcement officers operate in a world of increasing Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity (VUCA). MAGNUS Officers (Javidi, et al) counter the effects of VUCA through the purposeful integration and encapsulation of key virtues in their lives. Practically every ethical failure or instance of police misconduct can be traced back to a violation of the Centurion Principle, operating “out from under authority” and pursuing ego-centric gratifications. Conversely, MAGNUS officers faithfully represent their authorities without letting their egos get in the way.

This webinar explores the consequences of officers “giving away” lawful authority by resorting to ego-power. Then presents practical steps to professionally exercise their authority to build trust, generate voluntary compliance with the law, and prevent ethical failures.

Presenter: Sheriff Ray Nash (Ret.), Vice-President, Training and Development, International Academy of Public Safety and Director, Sheriff's Institute for Credible Leadership Development, Summerville, SC

Implementing Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Programs in Jails

January 11 @ 2pm Eastern

Middlesex County, Massachusetts did not let failure stop them when tackling opioid addiction issues.  They learned from what did not work in the first design of their MATADOR (Medication Assisted Treatment and Directed Opioid Recovery) Program to reboot, improve services, and achieve promising results.  The program employs a unique opioid and heroin addiction treatment model that deploys the use of an injectable form of a non-habit forming, long lasting medication that blocks the effects of opioids. Medication is combined with counseling /programming to address the substance abuse issues. Sheriff Koutoujian defines the success of the program by a person that is in compliance with counseling and programs.

Presenter:  Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian, Middlesex County, MA
