Sheriffs Testify at House Committee on Homeland Security

Today, America's elected sheriffs briefed Congress on issues affecting them at the local level and proposed changes and improvements in regards to homeland security. Sheriff Jerry Demings, Orange County (FL), testified that state and local law enforcement agencies need better access to immigration databases and information sharing from federal sources. He also emphasized the need for better analytics and training to prevent terrorist attacks on our soil by improving identification of metro statistical areas. Sheriff Mike Bouchard, Oakland County (MI), testified as well on the need for improved preparation, which includes better threat evaluations, increased funding and equipping of law enforcement agencies, and improved collaboration among federal, state, and local agencies.
