To Assist
Law Enforcement Officers and Their Families
The National Sheriffs' Association has established an account to receive financial donations intended to assist those law enforcement employees and their families impacted by natural disasters or other tragic events.
After an event like Hurricane Katrina, law enforcement officers will be on the streets, working to save lives and to restore order in their communities, even though they may have personally lost all that they own. Some may have families in shelters, while others may have had their families evacuated out of the devastated community that they call home. When these individuals have finished helping their communities, they will need help to restore order to their own lives, to help their own families begin the healing process, and to start the heartbreaking process of recovery.
As he worked to establish this new account, former NSA Executive Director Thomas Faust said: "It is at times like these – when members of the law enforcement community are in professional and personal need as they struggle to serve the people of their larger communities – that we must step up to recognize their efforts and move to provide every support that we can. We must come together as the family of law enforcement and law enforcement employees that we are and extend helping hands in support of our common mission."
NSA Past President, Sheriff Ted Sexton, Tuscaloosa County, AL, said: "I personally visited and conversed with law enforcement personnel in some of the devastated areas after Hurricane Katrina and have seen the strain these conditions are placing on law enforcement and their families. It is time we unite in support of them."
The National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) is a non-profit professional association located in Alexandria, Virginia. NSA represents the nearly 3,100 elected sheriffs across the country and has more than 20,000 members, including deputy sheriffs, other law enforcement professionals, and students. Throughout its sixty-seven year history, NSA has served as an information clearinghouse for sheriffs, deputies, chiefs of police, other law enforcement professionals, state governments and the federal government. NSA also provides management training for sheriffs and their command personnel in school safety and court security.
