Court & Judicial Security Certification

Court Security
 

NSA has created the Court & Judicial Security Certification at the NSA Center for Public Safety to provide training opportunities and professional designation for your staff in five levels.  The Basic, Advanced and Master of Court Security Certifications (CSC1, CSC2 and CSC3) must be completed in succession.  The Court Security Manager (CSM) and Court Security Executive (CSE) are standalone certifications.

CERTIFICATION RECIPIENTS

To apply for certification, please log in as an NSA member and then click on Event Registration. Choose your Certification from the list provided.

Once you have completed the registration process, an email will be sent to you with the applications necessary for each certification.  Mail all certification materials to:

Once Certification is complete, the recipient will receive a certificate via email, be listed on NSA’s web site and in Sheriff and Deputy & Court Officer magazines, and be recognized at the next NSA Annual Conference.

All submissions are subject to Advisory Board review and approval.  If you do not complete the certification process or are not approved for the certification, no refund will be given.
 

General Requirements

All applicants, regardless of level, must possess the following requirements: 

  • Current NSA Membership, Join Now
  • Work experience in a court security function (level of work experience specified in Specific Requirements for each certification below) – letter from agency head on agency letterhead with required information

 

CSC1

Basic Court Security Certification

This level is the first of a three-part program. This level certifies that you are a court security professional and gets you started in training courses.

CSC2

Advanced Court Security Certification

This is the second level of certification. This will certify that you have advanced knowledge of all court security functions and have taken required courses.

  • To be completed within twelve (12) months of formal application acceptance
  • General Requirements (see section above for more information)
  • Specific Requirements:
    • Must have completed the requirements for the Basic Court Security Certification (CSC1)
    • Must provide evidence of completion of one (1) online court security course at Columbia Southern University
    • Work Experience: Must have been employed in a court security function for a minimum of two (2) years

CSC3

Master of Court Security Certification

This is the third advanced level of certification offered at this time. A Master of Court Security Certificate indicates that you have taken required courses and know how to use an audit in your office.

  • To be completed within twenty-four (24) months of formal application acceptance
  • General Requirements (see section above for more information)
  • Specific Requirements:
    • Must have completed the Basic Court Security Certification (CSC1) and Advanced Court Security Certification (CSC2); 
    • Must provide evidence of completion of one (1) additional online court security course at Columbia Southern University
    • Must perform court security audit using NSA provided forms and present findings in written form   
    • Work Experience: Must have been employed in a court security function for a minimum of 3 years

CSM

Court Security Manager

  • To be completed within twenty-four (24) months of formal application acceptance
  • General Requirements (see section above for more information)
  • Specific Requirements:
    • Must provide a complete court and judicial security plan with Supervisor (if applicable) sign off
    • Must exhibit proof of advanced education/coursework (a college/university degree higher than a bachelor's) in related discipline    
    • Work Experience: Must be a court security supervisor and provide, in writing, proof of their role as such

CSE

Court Security Executive

  • To be completed within twenty-four (24) months of formal application acceptance
  • General Requirements (see section above for more information)
  • Specific Requirements:
    • Must provide a complete court and judicial security plan with Supervisor (if applicable) sign off
    • Must exhibit proof of advanced education/coursework (a college/university degree higher than a bachelor's) in related discipline 
    • Work Experience: Must be an executive from the head of the court security function (if applicable) and provide, in writing, proof of their role as such
