Current Issues

  • Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program: Contact your Congressman/woman in the U.S. House of Representatives and urge him/her to support H.R. 5180, a bill that would add $490M for the Byrne JAG program in the upcoming Emergency Supplemental bill.  Also, please contact your U.S. Senators and urge them to support providing additional funds to restore funding for the Byrne JAG program in the supplemental package.
  • Methamphetamine: Urge your U.S. Senators to support S. 1276, the Methamphetamine Production Prevention Act which would authorize funding to states to establish electronic logging systems to assist the efforts of sheriffs to actively and quickly apprehend individuals who appear to be stockpiling methamphetamine precursor drugs.
  • Collective Bargaining: Urge your U.S. Senators to oppose S. 2123, the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act which would impose a federal mandate on state and local government labor management relations, thereby forcing sheriffs and their deputies to adhere to strict guidelines established by the federal government. In addition, the proposed measure will not only supersede existing state and local collective bargaining agreements, but creates potential public safety risks to our communitie.
