2019 Legislative Priority: Advocacy
Victims, Mental Health, and Inmate Services
- NSA seeks to drive a national discussion on mental health issues to focus American people, State Governments, US Congress, US Executive Branch on solutions and funding for America’s jails and prisons and the mentally ill incarcerated.
- NSA encourages the repeal of the Medicaid Inmate Exclusion so that pre-trial inmates are able to receive the healthcare that they require, and law enforcement is not overburdened by the associated costs.
- Following the recent passage of the criminal justice reform bill (First Step Act), NSA remains dedicated to working through the implementation of this bill and the effect that it will have on victims and law enforcement in our local communities.
- NSA supports the clean reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and is committed to this aspect of community safety.
