Use of Force in Jails (Albuquerque)

This two-day class is designed to assist the Jail Command Staff, Supervisors, and Tactical/SRT team leaders and members in the use of force. Instructors will discuss the latest legal developments in the use of force including a review of the Kingsley case with an emphasis on pre-trial detainees. Recent court cases from around the nation involving the use of force will be reviewed. Attendees of this class will receive instruction in how the public’s perception of the use of force has changed over the years with an emphasis on report writing. The impact of video in corrections will also be a focal point as will the importance of the consistency of training throughout the entire agency in areas such as firearms, internal affairs and legal elements.
The growing concerns involving the use of force on offenders who have mental health issues and the importance of the integration of medical/mental health staff in this process will be covered. Examples of best practices for After Action Reviews of use of force as attendees will learn how to create and develop review units to aid departments with data collection and provide assistance to front line officers as well as supervisory staff.

Superintendents, wardens, assistant superintendents, deputy wardens, command staff, shift commanders, SRT/tactical team members, directors of security, and legal staff.

A minimum number of participants are needed to hold our workshops. You may cancel up to five business days prior to the Professional Development Workshop. No refunds will be given for cancellations received five or less business days before the class. All cancellations are subject to a $50 service fee. Your cancellation must be received in writing via fax or e-mail. Substitutions are acceptable. "No Shows" will be charged at the applicable rate.
It is strongly recommened that participants DO NOT purchase airline tickets without first contacting AJA to confirm program availability. Workshops begin at 8:00 AM and usually go until 4:00 PM (unless otherwise noted).
