The focus of the Center for Professional Development is to ensure our nation’s law enforcement agencies and officers are provided the most up-to-date information and training available in modern policing. The CPD partners with various training associations and institutes of higher learning to provide flexible training options accessible to agencies across the nation. The CPD is also tasked with providing assessments of an agency’s professional development and training programs in line with the mission and goals stated below:

Mission

The NSA Center for Professional Development is charged with the following objectives:

  • To provide professional development, leadership training, and resources to increase and strengthen the impact of individuals in middle and senior level management across all law enforcement disciplines in the 21st century.

  • To provide law enforcement individuals assigned to our Nation's Jails with research, analysis, strategic and tactical consulting, training, education and policy input to attain professional goals and objectives.

  • To provide law enforcement individuals assigned to our Nation's Courts and Judicial Centers with research, analysis, strategic and tactical consulting, training, education and policy input to attain professional goals and objectives in securing the facilities they are assigned.

  • To benchmark best practices and solutions to increase the professionalism and quality of persons in today’s 21st century law enforcement industry.

Goals

The Center will:

  • Research and Develop programs and information regarding modern law enforcement techniques and tools that impact our officers and leaders.

  • Develop cost-efficient and effective professional development programs, training and education for 21st century law enforcement.

  • Provide specialized training in Leadership Development, Court Security Operations, Jail Operations, Homeland Security, and Community Policing.

  • Provide resources and up-to-date information on Modern Policing, Leadership, Court Security Operations, Jail Operations, Homeland Security, and Community Policing.

  • Provide access to current professional and experts in Modern Policing, Leadership, Court Security Operations, Jail Operations, Homeland Security, and Community Policing.
