2023 Executive Committee Resolution

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF THE NATIONAL SHERIFFS’ ASSOCIATION 

ACKNOWLEDGES AND APPRECIATES SUPPORT FROM THE STATES OF 

FLORIDA, IDAHO, ARIZONA, TEXAS 

TO SOUTHWEST BORDER SHERIFFS AND INTERIOR SHERIFFS IN 

PROTECTING LOCAL COMMUNITIES FROM ILLEGAL BORDER CROSSINGS

 

WHEREAS, the nation’s Sheriffs along the southwest border and beyond are facing extreme resource shortfalls in aiding federal partners with protecting local communities exposed to record levels of illegal border crossings, and;

 

WHEREAS, there are several states and communities that have offered and provided support that is needed and been requested by Sheriffs in addressing these record levels of illegal border crossings, and;

 

WHEREAS, the massive surge in illegal border crossings is not likely to abate before the end of 2023, and;

 

WHEREAS, the Sheriffs along the southwest border and also Sheriffs in the interior of the United States are in dire need of technical and logistical assistance, training, manpower support, and other resources in addressing the illegal border crossings and keeping their local communities safe that the states of Florida, Idaho, Arizona, and Texas are helping to provide;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Executive Committee of the National Sheriffs’ Association hereby expresses its strong gratitude to Florida, Idaho, Arizona, and Texas for offering and providing tangible resources, trainings, and advice to any Sheriff along the southwest border and beyond needing and requesting such assistance to address illegal border crossings. Furthermore, the Executive Committee of the National Sheriffs’ Association implores other states to similarly lend their support to any Sheriff requesting help in protecting their local communities from these illegal border crossings.

 

This Resolution was adopted by the Executive Committee of the National Sheriffs’ Association on September 21, 2023. The Resolution shall remain in effect until September 21, 2027, in accordance with Article XIII, Section 6, of the Constitution and Bylaws of the National Sheriffs’ Association.
