Domestic Violent Extremism Research and
Translation (DVERT) CENTER
The Domestic Violent Extremism Research and Translation (DVERT) Center—a national center of excellence located at CNA— is dedicated to delivering timely and evidence-based findings to allied professionals who stand at the front lines of our nation’s efforts to prevent targeted violence and violent extremism.
The mission is to build knowledge that has practical utility for those at the front lines of the fight against violent extremism and the commission of acts of terrorism.
They execute this mission through four core functions:
- Assessment: Collaboration with practitioners and the community to identify the specific information need to do their work more effectively. They serve practitioner populations including law enforcement, district attorneys, federal probation officers, behavioral threat assessment professionals, mental health providers, and state and local policy makers.
- Research: Conduct rigorous research to provide evidence-based insights for practitioners working to combat violent extremism. The research is focused on questions whose answers have immediate implications for practitioners.
- Translation: Translate research findings into formats that have actionable value for practitioners, researchers, and the broader public. Package the findings in a variety of formats to increase accessibility, including research briefs, infographics, podcasts, and presentations at practitioner conferences.
- Training: Develop and offer professional development opportunities for practitioners working in targeted violence and violent extremism prevention, intervention, and reintegration. The training courses are grounded in cutting edge, evidence-based research findings to ensure that participants have access to the latest developments and effective strategies in the field. Deliver training across a continuum of modalities, including self-paced content, live virtual webinars, and in-person presentations and training sessions.
