On behalf of the more than 3000 sheriffs across our great nation – thank you!

To our sheriffs, deputies, personnel, detention officers and all first responders throughout the country, we are gratified and blessed by your strength and compassion as we all work tirelessly during the unprecedented coronavirus pandemic. You are our first and last line of defense. You are protecting our fellow citizens during this time of great difficulty.

The National Sheriffs’ Association is ensuring that sheriffs’ voices are heard by our partners in local, state and federal governments and by the private sector. Please know that you are represented forcefully and faithfully. You are cherished for your actions and are in our prayers daily.

You are committed to keeping us safe. We are asking the government and the private sector to keep you, your deputies and your communities safe, too. Our team of state sheriffs’ associations and our NSA COVID-19 Coordination and Response Cell are working to acquire the funding and access to the personal protection equipment and additional support you need.

Sheriffs are America’s steady, innovative leaders in this time of incredible crisis. Sheriffs are developing practical solutions to problems caused by this health emergency. We’re moving heaven and earth to ensure our communities are as safe and healthy as possible.

Since the founding of our nation, sheriffs have been the protectors of their communities and conservators of the peace. For hundreds of years, our citizens have looked to their sheriffs when their communities were under siege. Regardless of the nature of the perils presented, sheriffs have maintained law and order, often against insurmountable odds.

This is our legacy. We as a nation now face a great challenge and sheriffs’ resolve to preserve law and order and ensure justice is stronger than ever.

The sheriffs’ message to every law-abiding citizen is to remain calm and work together to ensure the safety of the community, state and nation. The sheriffs’ message to criminals who take advantage of this dire situation is we will not rest until you are brought to justice.

Sheriffs derive their power from the people, and with their support, our nation will overcome this challenge.

You each work diligently, with long hours and tough duty, and you accept and perform this challenge with amazing hope, strength and perseverance.
