The American justice system today again demonstrated its resilience. The guilt of Mr. Chauvin was determined by a jury, and the defendant was represented by competent counsel and the people by an equally capable prosecutor.

We echo calls for peaceful respect of the trial’s outcome. No one can adequately express our sadness for the loss of life, but so too our frustration at the actions of lawless behavior in the protests that destroy communities and the confidence in our democracy.
