NSA Mourns 1985-1986 NSA President Sheriff (ret.) Richard Germond
The National Sheriffs’ Association honors the memory of Sheriff (Ret.) Richards L. Germond, who served as NSA President from 1985 to 1986. He is remembered with deep respect, warmth, and fondness for his honorable leadership and lifelong commitment to public service.
Sheriff Germond began his law enforcement career in 1956. In 1964, after eight years as a Deputy Sheriff, he was appointed to fill an unexpired term and was later elected Sheriff of Lenawee County, Michigan, at just 29 years old. He retired from the Office of Sheriff in 2000, concluding nearly four decades of distinguished service as the longest-serving Sheriff in Michigan. He dedicated his life to public service, leaving a legacy of integrity, dedication, and compassion. Please find his obituary below.
