NSA Past President Larry Amerson Passes Away

The NSA is sad to announce the passing of Past President Sheriff Larry Amerson. Sheriff Amerson served as NSA's President for the 2012-2013 term and remained an active influence after his tenure as President. 

Sheriff Amerson passed away the evening of Thursday, December 3rd, after a battle with cancer. 

"Larry’s passing hits me deep since Larry was my NSI-Mentor Sheriff and a leading reason I joined the National Sheriffs' Association in 2007 and considered running for the NSA Board of Directors in 2009," said current NSA President Sheriff David Mahoney. 


The service for Sheriff Larry Amerson will be December 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.  Due to Covid-19 the service will be family only, but it will be livestreamed for all to watch from Mt. Zion Baptist Church’s Facebook pageAnniston Memorial Funeral Home is handling the arrangements and can help with sending flowers if you wish.

Sheriff Amerson was a staunch advocate for the Calhoun County Children’s Center and the family requests donations made to them in his name.

His family plans to hold a memorial at a later time.
