The National Sheriffs’ Association is proud to join 12 national law enforcement and public safety organizations in releasing Law Enforcement Principles for Responsible Use of Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) Technology.
ALPR is a critical public safety and investigative tool, but its use must be accompanied by strong safeguards, clear policies, transparency, and meaningful accountability. These principles offer a responsible framework that protects privacy and constitutional rights while preserving law enforcement’s ability to protect communities and save lives.
We look forward to continuing to work with policymakers and communities on this important issue.
