Collocated facilities are juvenile secure detention or correctional facilities located in the same building as, or on the same grounds as, a secure adult facility.
Key compliance considerations include:
- The juvenile area must be designated exclusively for juvenile occupancy.
- Interchangeable use housing units do not qualify as collocated juvenile facilities.
- Sight and sound separation must be maintained at all times through physical barriers or documented time-phasing procedures.
- Facilities unable to maintain separation will be classified as adult jails or lockups.

A secure cell block that may house adults at one time and juveniles at another does not qualify as a collocated juvenile facility.
To qualify:
- The space must be exclusively designated for juvenile use.
