Officer, deputy expected to be OK after Genesee County shooting, sheriff says

BURTON, MI -- A police officer and a Genesee County Sheriff’s deputy are expected to be OK after suffering wounds during a shooting Tuesday afternoon in Burton that left a male suspect dead.

Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Fachting underwent emergency trauma surgery for three hours at Hurley Medical Center in Flint and is now expected to survive, but remains in critical condition, Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson said at a news conference late Tuesday night.

Burton Police Officer Dalton Christie was moved from critical to fair condition around 5 p.m. today.

The shooting took place around 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 21, after police responded to a report of a man with a gun in Burton near Columbine and Bristol Roads. The suspect was identified and fled on foot.
