Lafourche Sheriff’s Office takes part in special training to prevent misconduct
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office has been accepted to take part in special training that aims to prevent police misconduct and mistakes.
Created by the Georgetown University Law Center, the Active Bystandership for Law Enforcement Project, or ABLE, teaches police agencies across the country intervention techniques in the event they see an officer doing something illegal or violating department policy.
The Sheriff’s Office joins about 60 other agencies selected to participate.
Sheriff Craig Webre said joining the ABLE Project demonstrates his department’s ongoing commitment to better itself.
“As sheriff, it is my responsibility to ensure our deputies are maintaining the highest possible levels of professional service and using proven best practices in all areas,” Webre said. “As a nationally accredited law enforcement agency, we have policies for deputies to intervene when they witness inappropriate actions by another deputy. By participating in the ABLE project, we will take that a step further by providing intervention training to all current deputies and to any new recruits who join our agency.”
