Former Washington County Sheriff Dick Ford dies

Francis R. “Dick” Ford, a former Washington County sheriff from Maine who fought off attacks as being a “transplanted” candidate and who was known as a reform candidate for the office, died Tuesday at age 90, according to his son.

Ford died at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, Md., after a long illness, according to his son, Mike Ford. Ford had been living in Hagers- town before he was sent to the hospital for treatment of a stroke.
